Reminder that Mother’s Day is next Sunday-May 11. I am not quite sure when it was invented or who invented it, Hallmark? But nevertheless, it is a lovely day to spend with all maternal relations.
I wanted to give you some advance notice because if you are anything like me holidays tend to creep up on you with no warning at all! Work and the daily task of making a living even in Paradise can derail you. I oftentimes find myself scrambling the day before. This year I intend to find the joy in planning, creating and executing something special for special days. Yes, I know everyday should be special!
I honor those of you who can do that and who are so fabulous in planning far in advance. The Japanese custom of giving a gift is not just the gift itself but also its deliberately beautiful packaging.

I wish I can say that I find inspiration out of thin air. Sometimes I do, but oftentimes, it is by reading, listening, or witnessing inspirational people. This morning I found one from Sarah Kay- amazing young woman who champions the “spoken word”. She wrote a simple poem about mothers called “B”.

Her video came to me via Seth Godins Blog. http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2014/05/when-is-mothers-day.html

I subscribe to his blog because I find it informative, helpful and authentic. He is passionate about  the idea that consumers should be “sold” by authenticity, honesty,  great customor service and creativity. Something we at LivingOnMauiNow aspire to do everyday!

As written from Amazon: “In 2011, Sarah Kay performed her poem “B” at the TED conference in Long Beach, California to a standing ovation. Now the video of that performance has been forwarded to mothers and daughters (and fathers and sons) all over the world. Originally written in 2007, “B” is a thank you note, a love letter, a wish, a promise, a confession, and a secret.”

I hope you can take some time out to Watch Sarah Kays TED conference performance in the following link:  http://sethgodin.hugdug.com/mothers-and-daughters.

If you wish, you can buy the book here: http://www.amazon.com/B-Sarah-Kay/dp/1612182798%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIAA4MWUJXHBYFRNQ%26tag%3Dhugdug1525-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1612182798#reader_1612182798

Some suggestions for Mothers Day weekend on Maui? Here are some thoughts:

Seabury Craft Fair: May 10. This is Maui’s favorite craft fair that happens once a year. (I’ll be there volunteering in the rummage sale area, so come by and say hello!). Lots of handcrafted items, Art, food and music. Located in the cooler climate of upcountry in Olinda. Bring your mom, grandmom or whomover you want to spend this day with. Don’t miss this great time! http://www.seaburyhall.org/page.cfm?p=981

Charity Walk:  May 10. Why not get some great exercise, talk story with the community and raise money for the charities on Maui. Mine in particular is for Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation http://mauihospitalfoundation.org/.
“The Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association invites everyone of every age to walk. Those under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult and walkers under the age of 18 must have this application signed by a parent or guardian. All walkers should have minimum donations regardless of age (see front of form). Please note that ALL pets are NOT allowed on the Charity Walk”, according to their website. “I am sure that if the mothers of various nations could meet, there would be no more wars”. E. M. Forster

To all mothers, grandmothers and caring individuals everywhere…. Mahalo!
